UWM Architecture Students Envision a Lakefront Sports Hall of Fame

 

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee architecture students, as part of a semester-long class led by Milwaukee architecture firm Rinka, have designed conceptual plans for a new Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame building at the downtown lakefront. The designs, presented to a panel including former Green Bay Packers star Donald Driver and Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame executive director Brian Lammi, featured creative ideas within real-world constraints such as a $12 million budget and the need to connect with surrounding activities. The projects included features like a green roof restaurant, a plaza with a splash pad, outdoor courts, large screens displaying player images, and translucent fins projecting from the building. While purely academic, these ideas could spark discussions on activating the downtown lakefront and integrating with the planned Lakefront Gateway Plaza.
