The Hop’s Lakefront Line Through The Couture to Begin Full Operations Next Week

The downtown Milwaukee streetcar, known as The Hop, will launch full operations for its new lakefront line, the L-Line, on April 11. This expansion had been delayed due to construction setbacks for The Couture, a luxury apartment tower with a transit center that includes a stop for The Hop. Construction on The Couture began in 2021 after years of delays. The tracks for the L-Line were laid earlier but remained unused until now. Limited L-Line operations began in late October, but only on Sundays and without utilizing the lakefront station at The Couture. With construction nearing completion, The Hop can now fully operate the L-Line, providing service to Milwaukee's lakefront. The L-Line will operate seven days a week, mirroring the existing hours of operation of the M-Line. It is a nearly 2-mile route with eight stations, including three new stops along a spur connecting to the lakefront. The L-Line operates independently from the M-Line, with one streetcar servicing the route every 20 minutes. Riders will be able to transfer between the M- and L-Lines at any of the five overlapping stations.
