HO-CHUNK COMMUNITY CENTER

In Milwaukee, affordable housing and cultural identity are rarely treated as inseparable, this project insists they are. The Ho-Chunk Community Center rises from the vernacular architecture of the ciiporoke, weaving cultural rhythm and material memory into a building that shelters 24 low-income families while anchoring spaces for ceremony, craft, and collective gathering from the ground floor to the rooftop. Home, here, means belonging to something larger than four walls.
